The TODD BRIDGES YOUTH FOUNDATION began its services in June of 1992 as a result of the civil unrest in Los Angeles, after the Rodney King Verdict, because of wide spread devastation in Los Angeles. It's inception was to give kids a safe environment for recreation. It evolved into and educational support system for kids who couldn't read or write, and families in need of crisis assistance and counseling.
Todd, who had just become member of the Jesus Is The Answer Church, discovered an empty hall located next to the church offices. He then began to enquire what the church was going to do with the empty space. The pastor began to explain that he wanted to create some type of youth center, at which time Todd held the same vision in his heart. "Many people had talked about creating a youth program in the space but never acted upon their desire," stated Pastor Johnson. When granted the permission to move forward with the vision in his heart, Todd Bridges, along with his pastor and some young teen-age men and women from the community, began taking this old storage room and transforming it into a beautiful service and recreation center for youth. Todd began to share his vision with some of his friends. People like Attorney Johnny Cochran, Conrad Bain (Mr. Drummond of Diff'rent Strokes), Jesus Is The Answer Church, Drake Capitol and Mr. Ed Wilcox & The Host-Marriott Cooptation, the restaurant division of the Marriott Hotels of America began to step up to the plate to help bring a home run to Todd's vision. Motorola & Cross Colours clothing Company also join forces with the youth center to help these very needy, yet very worth children in the inner-cities realize their dreams. The youth center was relocated to offices in the Long Beach area in 1988 and continues to service youth through association and referrals programs. We now work in conjunction with programs such as the United Way, The Woodcraft Rangers, the NAACP ACT-SO and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Long Beach, CA. We hope to re-open a youth center one day in the near future to continue to provide our services on the over 1 million deserving youth in the Los Angels county area and to expand to inner-cities across America.
